Contacts and PCC

This department seeks to engage with the major issues of peace and justice for the world, and to find appropriate ways of collaborating with local agencies to deal with the many social issues that surround us. It also coordinates our ministry of welcome, pastoral care and spiritual guidance.

Mission Projects
Mission work involves outreach from the church to those in need, both in the UK and around the world. Each year, we have a Mission Weekend, when we give thanks for the mission agencies, and hear from some of them about their work. 12 Mission Projects are selected - one for each month of the following year. Each month there is a guest speaker from one of the projects. Visits are arranged where possible, and donations are made towards their work. We aim to give away 10% of our collection, and in the last year, our charitable giving was £2,942. (£30,277 was received in pledged giving and open plate.) Mission projects for the current church year are as follows:

2007
Jan A Rocha
Feb Hillside Animal Sanctuary
Mar Bishop's Lent Call
Apr L'Arche
May Christian Aid
Jun Samaritans
Jul British Heart Foundation
Aug Hepatitis Awareness
Sep Survivors of Sexual Abuse

Fair Trade Campaign
We are currently involved in a diocesan-wide campaign calling on all parishes to register as a fair-trading church. Only fairly traded goods are used for our refreshments, and we are about to set up a stall in church. For further information, visit the Fair Trade website.

Welcomers
The Welcomer is usually the first person you meet when you come to church. The job entails providing a welcome and any information for all who come to our worship. This ranges from news for regulars, helping newcomers to feel at home in our church and greeting those who are attending a special service such as a Baptism.

The welcomers are always keeping an eye out for any help needed by members of the congregation, before, during and after the Eucharist. Please speak with Mo Banks, if you would like to join the Welcomers' team - see contact details below.

Refreshments after the Worship
After services on Sunday mornings, people are invited to stay for refreshments and a chat. This is an opportunity to meet others in the congregation.
We have a small band of volunteers who serve the refreshments, working on a rota basis. New helpers are always welcome and this is an even better way to meet people!

Contact: Margaret Goodair via the Contacts page.

Visiting
Much pastoral care is done through informal visiting. The Pastoral Co-ordinator, the wardens and clergy are always available to receive requests for prayer and visiting. They will always attempt to visit Newcomers when requested. There is also a leaflet available in church, called 'Caring for One Another'. This can be filled in with the names of those who require a visit or you can contact us at mitchamparishchurch@uk2.net
